The 2025 edition of the Design for a Better World Award marks the beginning of this collaboration, with event emissions fully compensated through direct investment in Amazon rainforest protection.

Organizing an event today goes far beyond logistics, production, or guest experience. In a world increasingly shaped by the urgency of the climate crisis, assessing the environmental footprint of every activity has become essential to ensure coherence between vision and execution. Within this context, event decarbonization has emerged as one of the most concrete ways to align purpose, innovation, and responsibility.
It was with this perspective that Centro Brasil Design (CBD) decided to transform the global renowned Design for a Better World Award 2025 into a carbon-neutral conference, in partnership with Alga.
Centro Brasil Design and its legacy of positive impact
Founded in 1997, CBD has become a reference hub for design and innovation in Brazil. Over the past two decades, it has delivered more than 5,300 services for companies, national and international projects, training programs, and strategic consultancies that strengthen the competitiveness of Brazilian industry.
Since 2018, CBD has been part of the UN Global Compact Network Brazil, being the first design-focused institution to commit to five priority SDGs:
SDG 5: Gender Equality
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
CBD also represents Brazil in international awards such as the iF DESIGN AWARD, one of the most prestigious global design recognitions, and has advised hundreds of projects that have received worldwide acclaim.obais de design, e já assessorou centenas de projetos premiados mundialmente.
A certified carbon compensation project
The 2025 Design for a Better World Award’s decarbonization journey began with a full carbon footprint assessment, followed by the development of a tailored compensation portfolio and official certification conducted by Alga.
For this portfolio, carbon credits were sourced from the REDD+ CIKEL Project, located in Paragominas, Pará. The project protects over 27,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest and prevents the emission of more than 370,000 tons of CO₂ annually, while also delivering strong community benefits through training programs, sustainable income generation, and investments in health and education initiatives.
A new agenda for design and sustainability
Beyond celebrating creativity, the Design for a Better World Award now stands as a milestone of coherence and transformation for the industry. By combining CBD’s extensive expertise with Alga’s climate solutions, this partnership demonstrates that engaging in the climate agenda is not only possible, it is increasingly essential.
Looking ahead, the partnership promises a series of initiatives designed to drive sustainable transformation and inclusion across industries, reaffirming the role of design as a catalyst for change.
